New Website. Who Dis?

At Eclectic Source, we noticed one thing: When creating something new, people rarely know what they want.

We just revamped our website in a tremendous way and we believe it is a huge step in better serving our new and existing clients. As we continue to grow and evolve in the design space and in Nigeria, adaptation is key.

This piece touches on why and how we achieved that. 

A significant proportion of our product and service offerings came about due to listening to what our customers really want. A lot of our first customers will remember we started out making album artworks and now we have so far stretched our offerings that we make e-commerce websites for small and medium businesses amongst other things. This trend will only continue as we progress and grow.

So what are the changes?

New Look
We have entirely changed our front page to enable new customers to request a design service quickly and for existing customers to order new designs faster.

We changed the aesthetics on most of the pages to keep up the consistency in our branding and this will become evident on all our channels.

Efficiency
We’ve always been a big proponent of putting our Pricing and Design Forms on our website. Even though it is contrary to what most design firms do, we believe this step helps us a lot in efficiency.

We just love to design. So when we noticed a lot of customer requests were based on pricing, timing, and supply, we decided to re-evaluate and think of how we can leverage technology to help us. So we’ve put a lot of repetitive admin items on our website (and hope to put more) so we can get back to what we really love- design.

More on efficiency, we revamped our logo forms, website forms and other forms which we talk about here. We have also introduced new pricing and packages as well as a converter so customers can order in various other currencies.

Create an Account
One of the biggest introductions to our new site is the ‘Create an Account’ feature. It’s such a big deal for us, we wished we thought of it sooner.

We now encourage all new and existing customers to create an account with us so we can serve them better.

Having an account enables customers to refer friends and partners to us and more importantly get rewarded for referrals. Referrals are a huge thing in Nigeria so we are trying to leverage that in a technological way. 

Having an account enables existing customers to order designs and bespoke elements quicker.

Having an account gives customers some behind the curtain access and features which are not viewable without a log in.

Letting our customers have an account enables a lot of things that we are excited for this space and we will see a lot more add-ons in the coming months.

Chat With Us
One of the biggest requests we receive from our Nigerian customers is ‘Can we get your number?’

As designers, we are always prone to ask ‘why’. When we looked at the issue deeply, we realised that most of the time customers just want to chat with us mostly by WhatsApp.

The issue with WhatsApp is, it is the wrong tool to do business. WhatsApp is primarily an online social tool for conversing with family and friends so it lacks a lot of key business features.

To resolve this issue, we introduced a chat function into our site (late to the party, we know) but the key thing here is, the chats go directly to our slack channel. We can directly have a chat with a customer even while out and about in the mall, for instance.

The Future
As we move forward, we will continue to listen to our customers and this time we hope to use the data we get to better understand and improve our services.

Daily, weekly, monthly, we strive to continuously improve ourselves, our services and most importantly our customers’ businesses. It is important to us as we can only succeed if our customers are succeeding.
